The ScoliClinic is proud to offer scoliosis-specific physiotherapy services to kids, teens, and adults with scoliosis or Scheuermann's Kyphosis.

Your initial assessment will start with an in-depth conversation about you (or your child’s) scoliosis history. Next, we will do a detailed physical assessment to gather baseline measures, explaining the significance of what we’re doing every step of the way.

Then, we’ll explain our understanding of scoliosis - possible theories on how it starts, how it progresses, and where physiotherapy fits into the picture.

Finally, based on our findings, your goals and personal circumstances, we’ll come up with a therapy plan that is best for you or your child.

During your 1:1 follow-up sessions with your physio, you'll learn:
- how to find good posture in your own body
- activity modifications and pain management strategies
- tips on how to move through your daily life in the most spine-friendly way
- curve-specific exercises (also known as 'autocorrections') to teach your muscles to activate in a more symmetrical and efficient way to hold your spine in an optimal alignment

Our goal for each session is for you to feel more empowered to care for your spine to allow you to do the activities that are important to you.

Why did I become a Physiotherapist?

Scoliosis has been a part of my life since the age 12. My curve progressively increased throughout my teenage years and resulted in extensive back surgery in 2013 to fuse and straighten my spine. My scoliosis journey has not been easy but the life lessons I have learnt have been invaluable. It has taught me resilience, courage, strength and was the reason I became a physiotherapist – to support those in a similar position to where I was. I completed my studies at Bond University and graduated with a Doctor of Physiotherapy in 2014. Since graduating I have had wonderful opportunities working in private practice and now, I’m ready to follow my passion and open a clinic dedicated to patients with scoliosis.

Early in my career as a Physiotherapist, I quickly realised there was a big gap in the conservative management of scoliosis in Australia. Further, there was no scoliosis-specific training available in the country. My drive and passion to find answers and fill this gap in the treatment of scoliosis led me to many wonderful travel opportunities overseas. In 2017, I completed my Schroth certification in Barcelona, Spain and more recently have spent time living and working in Vancouver, Canada as part of the fouding ScoliClinic team. I was instantly drawn to The ScoliClinic’s talented team of therapists, their strong values, and drive to provide the highest quality experience and care for those with scoliosis and other spinal conditions. I feel so fortunate to have the opportunity to bring The ScoliClinic’s services to Australia as The Scoliosis Collective and be a part of the team – from the other side of the world!

The following courses support my practice as a Physiotherapist:

  • WHTA Women’s Health Physiotherapy Intensive Course (2018)
  • APPI Pilates Equipment Level 1,2,3,4 (2018)
  • Barcelona Scoliosis Physical Therapy School – C1 (2017)
  • APA Sports Physiotherapy Level 1 course (2016)
  • Pilates Equipment 1, 2, & 3 for Physiotherapists, Pilates Institute of Queensland (2016)
  • Musculoskeletal Segmental Layering and Dry Needling Course, Combined Health (2015)
  • Rocktape Kinesiology and Power Taping course (2014)
  • Studio Pilates International Matwork Instructor Course (2014)
  • Doctor of Physiotherapy, Bond University (2014)
  • Level 1 Sports Trainer course (2012)
  • Bachelor of Exercise Science, Bond University (2012)

Whether you’ve just been diagnosed with scoliosis, or have mirrored my experience, or have had scoliosis for many years, I look forward to meeting you and helping you through your journey.

I distinctly remember that moment I realised that I wanted to work in the Scoliosis world - at age 13, I saw the X-ray of my own spine and my surgeon explained that I had a unique curve there. I was immediately intrigued - how did this curve appear, and what could I do to ensure it didn’t worsen?

At the time, treatment options for Scoliosis were not well understood, so my curve did worsen. I was concerned about my physical appearance and my self-esteem was pretty low. Then in my early 20’s, I began to feel pain which significantly impacted my quality of life. So, I decided to see whether soft-tissue therapy/massage could alleviate some of the pain. The treatment was highly effective and inspired me to pursue a career in Myotherapy, with the aim of eventually focusing on Scoliosis. Ever since completing my degree, I’ve been absorbing as much knowledge as possible from the leading professionals in this field.

It wasn’t long before I learned about The ScoliClinic in Canada. I was in awe of the difference they were making. The quality of service, vast knowledge, the rapport they build with patients, and the positive team environment was second to none. I emailed to ask Andrea for advice and funnily enough, The ScoliClinic was already on their way to Australia, opening as The Scoliosis Collective! I am so thankful for the opportunity to work alongside, and be mentored by teammates from both companies. It is a dream come true to help others with Scoliosis.
